Today we're introducing Speed Mode, a new practice option for extra busy Japanese learners.

Speed Mode allows you to quickly zip through piles of vocabulary when you don't have time to type it out.

It's an excellent option for when you've taken a step back for a few days from your practice, and you feel overwhelmed by all the cards you should recap.

Before Speed Mode, you'd need to type out every single word when practicing, a.k.a the Standard Mode. The standard approach is great for maximizing the learning you get out of the time you spent within Kotobaten, but it can be time-consuming, especially if the words you need to practice have piled up.

Standard mode

When you activate Speed Mode, you only need to click Yes/No to indicate if you remember the card, allowing you to move to the next one immediately.

As you can imagine, this will enable you to rip through dozens of cards in minutes. 🏃‍♀️

🌟 The new Speed Mode

As you'd expect, Speed Mode is fully shortcut-enabled. Press y for Yes and n for No. You can turn on or off the Speed Mode at any time by clicking the lightning icon or by pressing s on your keyboard.

Keep in mind that while it's tempting to turn the Speed Mode on every time, you're sacrificing additional memorization you gain by fully typing out the words. We recommend that you use Speed Mode when you fall behind, but turn it off once you're on top of your vocabulary again.

Happy practicing!
